Best Way To Cook Steaks Step By Step Instructions
- Start by seasoning the steaks all over, by rubbing in a generous helping of salt and pepper.
- Add 1 tbsp of olive oil to each steak and gently rub the olive oil in.
- Let the steak stand at room temperature for 1 hour to allow seasoning to set in.
- Once the steaks have been seasoned for 1 hour, turn the oven on to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Once the oven has warmed to that temperature, put your oven safe pan (or pot, I used a Le Cruset in my case) on the stove top and begin warming it on a very high heat. We want the pan to be very very warm!
- Sear the steak for 1.5 minutes on each side in the hot pan.
- Transfer the pan into the oven on the middle rack of the oven and cook for 5 minutes.
- Remove the pan from the oven and place it on the stovetop and remove the steaks from the pan and let rest on a plate for 5 minutes.
- In the pan used for steaks, add 1/2 cup of red wine and the 2 tbsps of butter, scraping up all of the bits left over from the steak. Keep cooking the sauce until it has reduced to about 1/3rd cup (about 2 minutes).
- Serve steaks with the red wine sauce on top. You will have a very juicy steak with the middle red and the outsides crisp and flavorful.
And that is the best way I found to cook steak in a pan!
It’s very simple and delivers all of the flavor and tenderness you want in a steak. You can pair the steak with mashed potatoes and a veggie of your choice—he red wine sauce makes for a perfect gravy for the potatoes as well as the steak. But experiment with which combination of sides please you best—that’s the fun part of cooking: trying every which way of cooking something and seeing what you can discover.
