Today my daughter and I visited for the first time a Tinley Park park that not too long ago was called Bristol Park, after the street it’s on and the neighboring Bristol Park subdivision.

About Chief Mike O’Connell Park

The 3-acre park was acquired by the Tinley Park Park District in 1999 and includes:

• a playground
• a picnic shelter
• a pathway
• a soccer field

On May 6, 2020 the park was renamed to honor Tinley Park native and Tinley Park Police Chief Mike O’Connell, who sadly passed away. O’Connell had been the village’s police chief since 1995 and died on May 11 2011 at the age of 60 following complications from heart surgery.

Favorite part: Even on a cold 28F winter afternoon my daughter was having a blast. There was something about the mini rock wall climb that kept her coming time and again. So I would say that was her favorite part of the playground.

Although there’s a sign that says the play structure was built for 5 to 12 year olds, if you have a tall almost 3 year old like our daughter, they shouldn’t have a hard time climbing the stairs and enjoying almost all of the features of the play structure.
