If you know me, you know that this is one of my top 3 favorite movies of all time.

Decades ago my mom had bought the 1995 motion picture soundtrack, but THIS is every sound, suite, and song heard in the movie. The full versions of all of them. So we’re talking a few extra hours of the soundtrack that kind of stole the entire movie. Scored by the legendary composer John Williams. You know that guy who scored movies like Indiana Jones. And Sting sings this fantastic song that is criminally little known. So I’m taking this moment to urge you to give this soundtrack a listen, In The Moonlight especially.

But the timing of this dropping has me curious. 2023 isn’t even an anniversary year for the movie. All I know is that an out of the blue tweet from @lalalandrecords announcing a limited (3000 units) edition expanded 2-disc soundtrack was being released May 2, 2023. I couldn’t resist.

Who knows why things happen when they happen…but I found a bit of little known trivia in the oh so satisfying liner notes (the cd booklet) that could be a hint that could explain the random drop of this diamond soundtrack:

“Sabrina had been slated as an autumn 1995 release, but was shifted to December when Paramount moved Mission Impossible (1996) to the following summer” [page 19].

As much of the globe knows, MI7 is the movie of this summer, so maybe, just maybe…

After all, you also learn in the liner notes that Tom Cruise was offered the role of Harrison Ford’s brother in the movie, but turned it down for Mission Impossible (1996). Wild right?! And most of the globe also knows that the final Indiana Jones is also in theaters this summer.

Frankly,  Sabrina (1995) is a movie that deserved better, Julia Ormond in particular. She didn’t get the credit she deserved, which is ironic because her character is the heart of the movie! Women are more in power now, and I hope that other young women and men take the time to discover this movie and her more natural approach to Samuel Taylor’s iconic character—SabrinaFairchild.

Not many remakes are ever good, but this one was, and actually out does the original from 1954. It’s really special.
