I have my American Speech-Language and Hearing Associations (ASHA) Certified Clinical Competence credentials (CCCs) since 2018. Before August of last year I worked in a school district where I serviced children in Preschool through grade 8. My caseload mostly focused on Preschool. When COVID-19 hit, I knew the families of children who need assistance working on their speech-language skills would be struggling as therapy was limited. Even now, in-person speech-therapy requires both the student as well as the therapist to wear a mask. Masks hinder both the child’s ability to be understood as well as their ability to pick up on visual cues such as mouth and tongue placements for the speech sounds they are working on. Here at Imaginative SLP, I offer virtual speech-language services for families who are located within Illinois for ages 3-14 (grades Preschool through 8th grade). My virtual services are structured just like in-person services and include a variety of engaging activities for all ages. Choosing virtual therapy eliminates the need for traveling to therapy appointments weekly as well as the worry of making an appointment due to weather or other outstanding circumstances. Virtual services also ensures that your child will receive visual as well as auditory feedback and instructions on mouth and tongue placement since neither party will be required to wear a mask during therapy.
